También en Atlanta (Georgia), donde una multitud mostró su enfado por lo sucedido y la pagó con la sede central de la cadena de televisión CNN.
Pero allí se dio otra imagen que contrasta con los disturbios: la de la jefa de Policía, Erika Shields, rodeada de manifestantes charlando tranquilamente con ellos.
Shields ha protagonizado un momento que está dando la vuelta al mundo y que ya han visto millones de personas. Como es el caso de este vídeo, en el que vemos a la responsable policial ir uno a uno escuchando a los manifestantes y mostrándoles su punto de vista.
En el vídeo, que acumula más de 7 millones de visualizaciones, vemos cómo una mujer negra le expresa su preocupación porque no sabe si podrá volver a casa con vida por la brutalidad policial. “Necesito que lo entienda, necesito que haga algo”, le dice.
“Lo sé, lo sé”, le indica Shields, que trata de calmar a su interlocutora con este mensaje:
Tras hablar con la mujer, Shields se gira y comienza a dialogar con otro manifestante.
En declaraciones a los medios, Shields aseguró que la orden que había dado a los agentes de Policía era dar espacio a los manifestantes y evitar que fueran las fuerzas de seguridad las que iniciaran la escalada de tensión.
