Es, sin duda, la noticia del año. Aquella que todo periodista querría dar: la renuncia, por primera vez en siglos, de un papa.
“Publiqué la noticia y me puse a llorar”, evoca Giovanna Chirri, corresponsal en el Vaticano de la agencia italiana Ansa, a la edición italiana de The Huffington Post. Chirri fue la primera en percatarse del alcance de la noticia que había revelado Benedicto XVI durante una discreta ceremonia de canonización.
LA SALVACIÓN DEL LATÍN
El hecho de que el papa haya utilizado el latín para anunciar su decisión no supuso un problema para Chirri, que domina la lengua, pero sí para sus compañeros periodistas: junto a ella había un italiano, un mexicano, dos franceses y un japonés. Y eso que, como ella misma ha reconocido, el latín del Papa “es muy fácil de entender”.
"Pensé que era absurdo. Sabía, como todo el mundo, lo que había escrito en su libro (Luz del Mundo), pero estaba convencida de que no iba a renunciar".
Daban las 11:46 horas de la mañana cuando Chirri ha mandado la información a su agencia que, inmediatamente, la ha replicado para todo el mundo. “Conocía el alcance de la información, la agencia lo verificó y sabían que conocía muy bien el idioma. Y entonces mandaron el urgente”, ha señalado a la edición italiana del HuffPost. Ella también tuiteó esta noticia.
Chirri ha pasado casi 20 años cubriendo la información del Vaticano, pero esta ha sido la noticia que le ha hecho “temblar las piernas”, tal y como ha reconocido. “Me ha dolido que el Papa Benedicto XVI renuncie. Él es un gran teólogo”, ha señalado a través de su cuenta en Twitter.
