“Aunque esta sea una verdad incómoda, creo que debo decirla aquí: la Iglesia católica en nuestro país ha sido cómplice demasiadas veces encubriendo la violencia sexual hacia los niños y esto tiene que terminar”.
Los obispos consideran “gravemente injusta” la acusación que realizó Belarra:
“En el ámbito del debate parlamentario, la ministra de Derechos Sociales y Agenda 2030, Ione Belarra, señaló a la Iglesia como cómplice de esos abusos por encubrimiento. Es una acusación gravemente injusta que pretende ensuciar la actividad de millones de personas durante décadas y que no se corresponde en absoluto con la verdad”.
Los obispos creen que Belarra está siendo “presa de un rancio anticlericalismo”. “El trabajo de miles de laicos, sacerdotes y religiosos con esfuerzo, capacitación, dedicación y responsabilidad no puede quedar empañado ni por las acciones de algunos de sus miembros que son indignos de ese trabajo ni por las apreciaciones de los políticos que, presas de un rancio anticlericalismo, utilizan a la Iglesia para la confrontación política en una estrategia de ruptura y confrontación”, subrayan.
En el comunicado, los prelados celebran la “buena noticia” que supone que “el Congreso se haga eco de una problemática que afecta a la sociedad española” al aprobar esta ley de infancia.
Si bien, lamentan que Ione Belarra señalara a la Iglesia como “cómplice” de los abusos pues, según defienden, citando estudios independientes “el 0,2% de los casos (de abusos) se han dado en actividades religiosas”.
Así, aunque consideran que ese porcentaje es “grave”, creen que “pone en su magnitud las dimensiones del problema y señala los entornos en los que se producen mayoritariamente los abusos”.
Además, los obispos subrayan que la Iglesia católica inició ya en 2002 un largo proceso de actualización de sus protocolos y su código de derecho especialmente en cuestiones de prescripción de esos delitos y de prevención de abusos en el presente y en el futuro.
“Desde aquel año se han desarrollado protocolos y entornos seguros para los menores en los lugares en los que la Iglesia realiza su actividad. Las congregaciones religiosas han desplegado un importante número de iniciativas para atender de manera segura a los menores y también la Iglesia diocesana está recorriendo ese camino y han habilitado oficinas de protección a los menores y prevención de abusos en todas las diócesis españolas”, explican.
En este sentido, aseguran el “firme compromiso” de la Iglesia “en la promoción integral de los menores” y destacan las “miles” de iniciativas que desarrollan cada año “que buscan formarlos en valores tan relevantes como la solidaridad, el respeto a la diferencia, el servicio al bien común o el cuidado del entorno según los principios del humanismo cristiano”.
